What Are the Advantages of Clear Aligners Over Conventional Braces?
Clear aligners are known as the "clear alternative to braces," and they work effectively for both teens and adults. They typically work much faster than conventional braces, are more cost-effective, and don't contribute to tooth decay or gum disease like metal braces. So, it's clear that Invisalign aligners are comfortable, removable, and invisible, but what exactly does that mean for patients?
Possibly the biggest advantage is their removability. Unlike wire braces, you can take out aligner molds when you brush and floss your teeth, eat foods that are difficult with metal braces, and for taking photos. However, you have to remember to return them to your mouth as soon as possible because they have to be worn 22 hours per day to effectively align your teeth. In other words, the ultimate results are going to be dependent on your willingness to wear them as much as they need to be worn.
Another big advantage of clear aligner therapy is its overall comfort. It requires less force than metal braces that have to be tightened periodically, causing considerable pain for a couple of days. Clear aligners use gentle pressure instead, and even though patients have said that each new aligner feels snug for an hour or so, not one patient has referred to clear aligners as being painful.
Finally, there is a reason clear aligners are clear. They could come in any color of the rainbow and still perform their desired purpose. Since they're clear, however, others can't see that you're wearing them from a distance of around 14 inches or more.
How Do Clear Aligners Work?
Typically, you move up to a new set of aligners every two weeks, with each set nudging your teeth toward the desired position. With each visit to our office, we will usually send you home with three or four sets of aligners. This means you will only need to schedule an appointment every six to eight weeks.
